Bio

Dr Stokwe has seven years of experience in the field of integrated pest management, with a particular focus on the use of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) as biocontrol agents of insect pests. She has worked as a researcher at the Agricultural Research Council (2010-2016) where her duties involved:
 

  • Managing research projects on Integrated Pest Management
  • Compiling project proposals for new funding
  • Planning and undertaking research projects
  • Supervising postgraduate students
  • Providing leadership to research technicians
  • Managing project budgets
  • Publishing research outputs in peer – reviewed journals, semi scientific publications and technical reports
  • Identification and quantification of plant parasitic nematodes

Stokwe also worked as a Radiation Protection Officer (2012-2016) and coordinated a multi-faceted, internationally funded project involving the use of the sterile insect technique for the control of certain specified pests of fruit and other commodities. She was also responsible for the safe use of a gamma irradiator.
