Prof. Otieno  Malo  was born in Kano, Kisumu District in 1941. He received his early education at the Friends High School Kamusinga before being awarded a U.S.S.R. scholarship to study in Moscow. On his return from overseas study in 1968, he joined the Department of Physics the University of Nairobi.He was  awarded  a fellowship to study  for PhD  at Brandeis  University in the USA.On his return after being awarded a PhD in 1972. On he rejoined Department of Physics He has since then rose through the ranks to his current position of Professor of Physics til  his  rretirement on 31 August 2020. He has been very active in curriculum development within the Department of Physics and has taught most of the under graduate and postgraduate basic and specialized courses.He  has been appointed as  an Externa Examiner for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Degrees. His research interest includes, among others, Theoretical Studies in Plasma, Nuclear . Solid State, Statistical and Mathematical  Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Energy and Transportation.

Prof. Malo is a Member of the Institute of Physics of the United Kingdom (M.Inst.P.) He has published a considerable number of scientific papers in journals of international repute and also participated and presented papers in many national ,regionaland international meetings on science and technology. For approximately two years, he worked with the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology in Africa (UNESCO-ROSTA) as a Consultant in the Basic Science. He is  the founder Coordinator of the Physics  Subnetwork  of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI). He is the founder member and  Chairman of the Kenya National Association of Physicists (KNAP). He is also been a member of the National Council for Science and Technology and member and co- chair of Committee on Application of Nuclear Science and Technology (CoANST).Currently called the Nuclear Power Energy Agency  NuPEA.

He is married has  a  Son and a Daughter  with Five  grandchildren.
