Bio

Prof Salih obtained his B.Sc. in 1969 and a PhD in 1972 from the Imperial College of Science and Technology University of London and a Diploma in Hydrology in 1974 from PadovaUniversity (Italy).

He then joined the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Khartoum (1973). His research interests include environmental sciences with an emphasis on water resources management in arid and semi-arid zones.

He is currently Profesor at the Department  of Civil Engineering of the University of Khartoum; Environmental Advisor of the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh (Saudi Arabia); member of the Governing Councils of the University of Khartoum and Sudan University for Science and Technology; Guest Professor at the Institute of Hydrology and Environmental (IHE) Council of UNESCO’s IHP of UNESCO Paris (France) and member of the Governing Board of UNESCO-IHE Institute for water education of Delft (Netherlands).

He has served at UNESCO as Director and Representative of Teheran Cluster Office (covering Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan); Deputy Secretary of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of Paris; Programme Specialist in Environmental Sciences and Regional Hydrologist of Cairo; at the University of Khartoum as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering.

He is a member of TWAS, International Association for Hydrological Sciences and several other professional societies. He has 84 publications and 26 technical reports.
