Prof Shabani obtained his M.Sc. in Mathematics in 1978 from the University of Kharkov (Soviet Union); M.Sc. in Physics (1982) and PhD in Mathematical Physics (1986) from Louvain La neuve (Belgium).

He then joined the staff of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Burundi, served at various positions and became Associate Professor in 1990.

He has defined the delta functions in quantum mechanics, used and developed a mathematical model for heavy quarkonia mesonic decays; developed partial algebras of unbounded operators.

He has served in Senegal as Senior Specialist of Higher Education for Africa at the Regional Office of UNESCO (Dakar); in Kenya as Senior Specialist of Higher Education (in charge of the Eastern and Southern Africa) at the Regional Office  of UNESCO (Nairobi) and in Burundi as Vice Rector and Coordinator of the Institutional and Financial Audit of the University of Burundi.

He has served as member of the National Council of Scientific Research and Technology, member of the Social and Economic Council of the Republic of Burundi and Deputy Secretary General of the Association  of African Universities. He is member of the New York Academy of Science, American Physical society and the International Association of Mathematical Physics. He has 57 publications.
