Bio

He completed his BSc with Honours in Chemistry and Biochemistry (1979), MSc (1982) and PhD (1988) in Organic Chemistry at the University of Ghana, with his PhD research in insect chemical ecology conducted at icipe between 1985 and 1988. He was a Postdoctoral Associate (1989-1991) at the University of Maine, Orono. In 1991, he accepted a Scientist position at icipe and was later promoted to Senior Scientist in 2000. He was Rothamsted International Fellow (2000) at Rothamsted Research, United Kingdom and Visiting Scientist at the USDA/ARS-Centre for Medical, Agriculture and Veterinary Entomology, Gainesville, Florida (2001-2006). Baldwyn returned to icipe in 2007 as Principal Scientist and Research Leader of the Behavioural and Chemical Ecology Unit (BCEU). He is affiliated to the University of Pretoria as an Extraordinary Professor.

Baldwyn has published 105 peer-reviewed scientific papers including 96 journal articles, 3 Patents and 6 book chapters on insect chemical ecology with over 1,500 citations. He has given several plenary and keynote presentations at conferences including the XXV 2016 International Congress of Entomology, Orlando, Florida, International Society of Chemical Ecology, Invasive Plants and Malaria workshop, 13th Arbovirus and Mosquito Workshop and NE1443 Regional Project Workshop, USA, the General assembly of the African Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Entomological Society of America, served as Councillor for the International Society of Chemical Ecology, member of the American Chemical Society. He serves as a Reviewer for various Research Grant Organisations across the globe, and editorial boards of scientific journals: Journal of Chemical Ecology, Pest Management Science and the International Journal of Tropical Insect Science and the Advisory Board of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
