In this second session of “Setting up and managing your own research lab” Prof Charl Faul shall respond to questions posed by participants at his previous webinar. The webinar will be ideal for those who attended the 17th February Webinar. Charl F. J. Faul is Professor of Materials Chemistry and Head of Inorganic and Materials Chemistry at the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol, UK. He received his PhD from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 2000. After 4 years, first as post-doctoral researcher, and then as senior scientist at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Potsdam, Germany), he moved to Bristol in 2005. He is co-Principal Investigator and member of the Management Board of the £12M EPSRC-funded centre for doctoral training, the Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (BCFN), member of the management team of the Technology Enhanced Chemical Synthesis CDT and served as Director of Graduate Recruitment for the School of Chemistry for 5 years (2013-2018). As Head of Inorganic and Materials Chemistry (since 2018) he is part of the senior management team of the School of Chemistry. Charl is a synthetic materials chemist with a large multidisciplinary international research group focussing on the design and synthesis of electroactive functional materials. He has successfully supervised about 40 PhD and MSc students, published over 100 papers, and holds 3 international patents.
