Celebrating the life and contribution of Professor Aderemi Kuku

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is deeply saddened to receive the sad news of the passing on of Professor Aderemi Kuku renowned mathematician and past president of the AAS (2014-2017). He passed on 13th February 2022.
Professor Kuku was a distinguished scholar. He had a long teaching/ research career at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he became full Professor of Mathematics in 1982, Head, Mathematics Department, 1983-86, Dean, Postgraduate school, 1986-90, and Chairman, Committee of Deans of Postgraduate Schools in Nigerian Universities, 1986-90.
He consistently contributed to global knowledge and served in various positions as President of the African Mathematical Union (AMU), Member of the International Mathematical Union Commission on Development and Exchange and President of the African Academy of Sciences.
Prof Kuku received numerous recognitions and awards such as NNOM (Nigerian National Order of Merit), the highest honour in Nigeria for academic excellence, OON (Officer of the Order of the Niger), Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, Fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria and Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences.
The AAS remembers him for his contribution to the growth of the Academy. His contribution will remain in the records of the AAS forever. He will be greatly missed by the AAS Community, the African Region and Beyond. May His Blessed Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
