Prof Wandiga obtained his BSc from Howard University in 1967, M.Sc. in January 1972 from the University of Maryland and PhD in June 1972 from the Case Western Reserve University (USA).
He then joined the staff of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Nairobi and rose the ranks to become Professor in 1984. His research interests include the design, synthesis and characterization of metal chalets which have apparent utility as chemotherapeutic agents and as models for metal binding dynamics in biological systems; synthesis and characterization of metal chelates with unique structural features, stereochemistry, optical activity and electronic properties.
His work revealed half-life’s DDT as much shorter in the Tropics than in the Temperate zones (3 months versus 10 years). He was Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the College of Biological and Physical Science at the University of Nairobi. He has been Senate Member Coordinator of Project Investment with the Ministry of Education, Chemistry Committee Coordinator for South and East Africa Chemistry Environment Network of the Association of Science Faculties of African Universities and Kenya Executive Board Representative at UNESCO.
He served as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry and Chairman Organizing Committee for the second international chemistry conference in Africa. He is member of the World Conference on Science International Organizing Committee and several others professional societies. Prof Aluoch graduated in medicine in 1974 from the State University of Utrecht and obtained his Doctorate Degree in Medicine at the University of Netherland (1985).
His experiences include Resident, Internist, Senior Resident, Physician consultant, Assistant Adjunct Professor and Senior Lecturer. Presently, he is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Physician – Hematologist at the University of Nairobi.
His research interests cover immunohaematology of tropical diseases and clinical epidemiology of both gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases. His memberships are: Visiting clinical Professorship, Royal College of Physicians, International Clinical Epidemiology Network, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
He has published 3 books, 31 papers in scientific medical journals, and has made not less than 26 conference presentations. He is a member of the board of governors of Kuoyo Kochia Secondary School Homa Bay District- Kenya, co-organizer of African region of international clinical epidemiology network, member international outreach committee, and chairman steering committee proposed cancer Unit, Kenyatta National Hospital. He has contributed to the development of the medicine department of the University of Nairobi.

Prof Onyido obtained his B.Sc. in 1974 and PhD in 1979 from the University of Ibadan. He then joined the faculty at Ibadan as lecturer, then became a Senior lecturer, after which, he moved to the University of Agriculture of Makurdi (Nigeria) becoming full professor in 1990.
His research interests focus on the reactivity and mechanism(s) of catalysis in three main areas which are aromatic nucleophilic substitution and δ-complex formation, isotopic hydrogen exchange in molecules of biological importance and mechanisms of abiotic degradation of organophosphorus pesticides and model compounds. He has served at the University of Agriculture of Makurdi as Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dean of the College of Science Agricultural and Science Education, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of the Centre for Agrochemical Technology.
He has introduced the Postgraduate Degree Programs of Environmental Science and Agrochemical Technology in the curriculum of the University. He also served as Expert of the National Universities Commission fashioning science graduates for a competitive trans-national economy. He has represented Africa at the CHEMRAWN (Chemical Research applied to World Needs) Committee of the International Union of pure Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
He is member of the World Innovation Foundation, Chemical Society of Nigeria, American Chemical Society and several other professional societies also; has several national, regional and international recognition and awards. He has 44 publications and 1 book.

Prof. Vincent P.K. Titanji is currently an Honorary Dean at the Faculty of Science, University of Buea. He obtained his PhD degree (1978) and ‘Docent’ title (1988) in Physiological Chemistry from Uppsala University and his MSc degree in Animal Biochemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1973.
Subsequently, he founded and headed the Biotechnology Center, Nkolbisson, University of Yaounde I (1986-1996) and the Biotechnology Unit, University of Buea (1997-2012). He was appointed to the University of Buea as the Dean of the Faculty of Science (1993-1998) Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching (1998-2005) and Vice Chancellor or Rector (2006-2012).
As an expert in Protein Chemistry and Metabolic Regulation he initially focused on the elucidation the role of protein phosphorylation-dephosphorylation reactions in regulating glycolysis in the liver and the morphogenesis of the blinding parasite Onchocerca volvulus. Coordinating an interdisciplinary team on the applications of Molecular Biology techniques to tropical diseases, he and his colleagues devised diagnostic tests for river blindness, cloned vaccine candidates and identified new drug leads from medicinal plants for the treatment of river blindness and malaria .
More recently his group has characterized new clades of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Cameroon and probed into their susceptibilities to first line TB drugs. He has successfully trained 18 PhD graduates, 60 MSc students and has published more than 110 research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Prof. VPK Titanji was instrumental in the creation of the Cameroon Biochemical Society and has been President and Secretary General respectively of the Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (FASBMB) and the Federation of African Immunological Societies (FAIS). He is a Knight of the Cameroon Order of Valour, a Chartered Biologist (C. Biol), and Fellow (FI Biol) of the Institute of Biology, London; a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences; a Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences (FTWAS) and a recipient of the IFS/DANIDA Prize.

Prof. Otieno Malo was born in Kano, Kisumu District in 1941. He received his early education at the Friends High School Kamusinga before being awarded a U.S.S.R. scholarship to study in Moscow. On his return from overseas study in 1968, he joined the Department of Physics the University of Nairobi.He was awarded a fellowship to study for PhD at Brandeis University in the USA.On his return after being awarded a PhD in 1972. On he rejoined Department of Physics He has since then rose through the ranks to his current position of Professor of Physics til his rretirement on 31 August 2020. He has been very active in curriculum development within the Department of Physics and has taught most of the under graduate and postgraduate basic and specialized courses.He has been appointed as an Externa Examiner for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Degrees. His research interest includes, among others, Theoretical Studies in Plasma, Nuclear . Solid State, Statistical and Mathematical Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Energy and Transportation.
Prof. Malo is a Member of the Institute of Physics of the United Kingdom (M.Inst.P.) He has published a considerable number of scientific papers in journals of international repute and also participated and presented papers in many national ,regionaland international meetings on science and technology. For approximately two years, he worked with the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology in Africa (UNESCO-ROSTA) as a Consultant in the Basic Science. He is the founder Coordinator of the Physics Subnetwork of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI). He is the founder member and Chairman of the Kenya National Association of Physicists (KNAP). Guiguemde obtained his M.Sc. from the University of Bordeaux in 1977 and is a retired Major General of the armed forces of Burkina Faso. He was the Head of Department, Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ouagadougou from 1984 – 2014 and the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Bobo-Dioulasso from 2005 – 2014. Guiguemde specialises in; Tropical and parasitic diseases (malaria, dracunculiasis, schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis etc), planning, implementation and evaluation of control programs, training in medical parasitology, elaboration and implementation of research proposals and management of research teams. He is the current President of the National Academy of Sciences of Burkina Faso, the African Society of Parasitology and the Council of the Francophone African Dean of Faculties of Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.Guiguemde has been awarded Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Bordeaux 2 (1990), the Mohamed El Fasi prize for research in tropical diseases from the Association of the Francophone Universities (1994) and the Commander of the National Order of Burkina Faso (1990).He has published 112 papers on parasitic diseases in international journals.

Zewail Ahmed Hassan was an Egyptian chemist, known as the "father of femtochemistry". He was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry and became the first Egyptian to win a Nobel Prize in a scientific field. He was the Linus Pauling Chair Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Physics, and the director of the Physical Biology Center for Ultrafast Science and Technology at the California Institute of Technology.
He received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry from Alexandria University before moving to the United States to complete his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his PhD, Zewail did postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, supervised by Charles Bonner Harris. Following this, he was awarded a faculty appointment at the California Institute of Technology in 1976, and he made the first Linus Pauling Chair in Chemical Physics. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on 5 March 1982. Zewail was the director of the Physical Biology Center for Ultrafast Science and Technology at the California Institute of Technology.
Zewail had been nominated and participated in President Barack Obama's Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), an advisory group of the nation's leading scientists and engineers to advise the President and Vice President and formulate policy in the areas of science, technology, and innovation.

Prof. Obada was an Egyptian professor of Mathematics. He played a large role in the founding of the Egyptian Mathematical Society in 1992. He was elected as the first President of the Egyptian Mathematical Society and has continued in that role.
He started his studies in 1964 and awarded the Ph.D degree in Mathematics in 1967. In 1994 he was awarded the D.Sc. degree from the same university: Manchester University,England,UK.
Prof. Obada graduated in 1962 was a B.Sc. having been awarded Honours in Mathematics. For the next two years he worked at Assiut University as a Demonstrator in the Faculty of Science before being awarded a scholarship to study for a Ph.D. in England. For his doctoral research, Obada attended the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) beginning his studies in 1964.
Among the many awards and prizes given to Obada, we mention his election as a fellow of the Egyptian Academy of Sciences (1995), as a fellow of the British Institute of Physics (2000), as a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (2001), and as an elected member of the Academy of Arabic Language (2013). He was Vice-President of the African Academy of Sciences from 2004 to 2013. He received the Egyptian State Prize for Scientific Creativity in Basic Sciences (2004), the State Recognition Prize in Basic Sciences (2005), the Elsevier prize for scientific publications and citations (2008), the Misr El-Kheir Prize for highly cited papers (2011), the Nile Award in Science from the Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (2012), the State Sciences and Arts Medal of the First Order (2014) and the African Union's Kwame Nkrumah Laureate of Basic Science, Technology and Innovation Award (2019).

In 2012, Professor Paulus Gerdes was awarded the highest distinction prize for excellence in higher education, research and teaching in Mozambique by then President Armando Guebuza. He was one of the five winners of the Excellence Award for the Higher Education Gala celebrating achievements made in the sector from 1962-2012. He was a holistic Professor given to the three-fold nature of academic core business: teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community engagement. He saw his commitment and interest in ethno-mathematics as a calling and mission. He interacted with the artisans in rural communities who weaved the baskets,
and produced motifs on textiles, hats and clay pots which he researched on, as friends and colleagues. He was one of few scholars in Africa who emerged as a giant in ethnomathematics by researching and revealing the ethnicity and cultural nature of basketry and traditional textiles using geometry as the interpretive tool.
In 2001, Professor Paulus Gerdes was elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences; and in 2005, he served in the Governing Council as its elected Vice President responsible for Southern Africa Region. He was re-elected into the same position in 2009 and served in this capacity untill 2014 when a new Governing Council was
elected under his coordination. His last public engagement with AAS was in 2014 when he coordinated the elections of the Academy’s Governing Council and announced the results in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
Death: Professor Gerdes had been sick for some time and was eventually admitted in a renowned private hospital in South Africa to get the best of medical attention available in Southern Africa. Professor Paulus Gerdes died on 11 November 2014. He died at 62 on his birthday.

Prof. Hamza earned his B.Sc. in Science (Physics and Chemistry) from Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 1962. He specialized in Physic and obtained M.Sc. in 1967 and Ph.D. in 1972 from the same University.
Prof Hamza was hired at the University of Mansoura, he was a Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Mansoura since 1981, Vice Dean (1986 - 1992), first Vice President for Community and Environmental Development (1992 – 1994), President of the University of Mansoura (1994 – 2001), Vice President (2005 – 2008) then President of the British University in Egypt (2008-2013).
Currently, he is a Professor Emeritus in Mansoura University. His research interests are in optical properties of fibers and interferometry. He established Interferometry and Fibre Optics laboratory in the Faculty of Science, Mansoura University.
He is a member of several scientific institutions, includingthe National Committee of Pure and Applied physics, the board of the Academy of Science and Technology (ASRT); elected the chair of Council of Basic Science Researches), the Board of National Institute of Standards NIS, and L’InstituteD’Egypt. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, C.Phys.F.InstP (London), Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society, FRMS (Oxford). Prof. Hamza received several recognitions, including the Egyptian National Award in Physics in 1987, the State Prize of Merit in Basic Sciences in 1997 and Nile Prize in Advanced Technological Sciences in (2005). He was granted Doctor honoris causa (Dr.h.c) from the Technical University of Liberec, Czeck Republic in June 2000.

Professor G.O.P. Obasi was the first member of the Secretariat to be so appointed as Secretary-General and the first African to be appointed head of a UN body.
After a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics (1959) from McGill University, Canada, and an MSc and PhD in meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, he joined the National Meteorological Service of Nigeria. Four years later, he left to join the University of East Africa (which became the University of Nairobi), where he became Chairman of the Department of Meteorology and Dean of the Faculty of Science.
In 1978, he joined the WMO Secretariat as Director of Education and Training.Most notable achievement under his leadership:
WMO convened the Second World Climate Conference (WCC) in Geneva in 1990, following which the UN General Assembly created the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). UNEP and WMO initiated the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the secretariat of which is hosted by WMO.

Prof. Ogallo holds B.Sc (Hons), M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in meteorology from University of Nairobi. His main research areas of interest include climate change, Climate modeling, prediction , early warning and applications for addressing climate change and integrated disaster risk reduction challenges.
Prof Ogallo academic life has evolved at the Department of Meteorology University of Nairobi, over years where has has grown from a tutorial fellow in 1975 to a full professor. He was on leave of absence from the University between 1994-2019. He seconded to the agaovernment as the Secretary /CEO of Kenya National Council for Science and Technology before joining the World Meterorological Organization ( WMO) between 1996-1999. He joined UN regional drought monitoring center in Nairobi (DMCN) in 2000 as a project coordinator. DMCN grew under him to became the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC). ICPAC is an IGAD Centre for climate prediction and early warning in support of disaster risk reduction, Environment management and sustainable development efforts for 11 countries in the Greater Horn of Africa. Prof Ogallo was the founding director and managed DMCA upto 2015. Prof Ogallo also coordination an IGAD-UNDP project for buildig capacity for regional disater resilience between 2015-2018. He returned to the Department of Meteorology University of Nairobi in 2019 , and retired in January 2020.
Prof Ogallo served in various capacities at Global, regional and national levels. He has been a contributor to climate change asessmements by the Intergovenmental Panel on climate change (IPCC), and a member of the IPCC team of scientists who received the Nobel Prize Awad forbefore joining the year 2007. He is a Member of the (i) WMO Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP), (ii) Member Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) for Climate Research for Development (CR4D) a partnership of the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS); (iii) Co-Chair of the Solar Radiation Management (SMR) Governance Initiative (SRMGI) committte, founded in 2010 by the Royal Society, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) for getting developing countries into the conversation about SRM and research, etc
Prof Ogallo is a fellow of ---(TWAS), ----(AAS), ------(KNAS) , Kenya Met society among many others. He has supervised and also examined very many MSc and PhD student all over the world, and has published widely in many professional jpournals as well as books

Prof. Kokwaro obtained his PhD in 1969 from the University of Uppsala in Sweden. He has been a prolific writer who by 1986 had revised and published four books for the flora of East Africa. |
